Aakash 4 To Offer Nexus 7 Specs At 3000

The next version of the Aakash tablet, called as Aakash 4, will come with bumped up specs that are close to Google’s Nexus 7. According to the specifications released by the department of electronics and information technology (DeitY) on Monday, the device will also support calls and 4G services.

The specs also suggest that the new tablet will be an improvement over the Aakash 3, based on the Datawind UbiSlate 7C+. The device has 7 inch display LCD display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution. It comes with 1 GB RAM, and 4 GB internal memory that can be extended up to 32 GB via microSD card. It will have dual-bootable operating systems, Android Jelly Bean along with Ubuntu distro. The tablet will support internet connectivity via SIM, WiFi and 2G, 3G, or 4G internet dongle and also support external keyboard and mouse. When it comes to battery the device is said to support at least 3 hours of online 720p video playback.  

In terms of CPU performance, Aaksh 4 will have a minimum of 3537 Antutu Benchmark score and it is comparable to Google Nexus 7, which has a score of 3679, according to Arun Prabhudesai from trak.in. The Antutu Benchmark is an application that gauges the speed and performance of Android based mobile devices.

Aakash 4 is to cost around Rs 3,000, according to HRD ministry officials.

Xolo Q600 Gets Listed Online For 8749

Xolo has released another Smartphone in its Q range, Xolo Q 600 for Rs 8,749. The 4.5 inch Smartphone comes with moderate specifications except for a quad-core CPU.

Q600 follows the launch of its elder siblings Q700, Q800 and Q1000. The screen of this dual SIM Smartphone has a normal resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The 1.2 GHz Quad-core processor is accompanied by 512 MB RAM and PowerVR SGX 544 GPU. Internal memory of the device is limited to 4 GB, with an expansion slot that supports upto 32 GB.

A 5 MP autofocus camera sits on the rear accompanied by a secondary VGA camera on front. The 2000 MAh battery will be enough to propel this moderate powered deice for more than a day of work. Android’s latest Jelly Bean 4.2 makes the package more attractive. However, with lot of alternatives available I the same price market, the Q600 will have to face a stiff competition.

ZTE Launches World's First Firefox OS Smartphone

Spain's Telefonica is offering the world's first Smartphone with the Firefox operating system to compete with devices running Google Android and Apple IOS.

The ZTE Open Smartphone goes on sale in Spain this week for 69 Euros (about $90) and will soon be available in several Latin American countries.

The device is aimed at the youth market and at people who are new to Smartphones, Telefonica's chief of product development, Carlos Domingo, said during a Madrid press conference where he was joined by executives from Mozilla and telephone-maker ZTE.

Equipped with a 3.5-inch 480x320-pixel touchscreen, the ZTE Open includes a 3.2MP camera, 256MB RAM and 512MB flash memory enhanced with a 4GB microSD card that comes as part of the package.

The purchase price includes 30 euros ($39) of pay-as-you-go credit.

The ZTE Open is fully integrated with Facebook and the Spain-based social network Tuenti and talks are on about incorporating the WhatsApp instant-messaging service, Telefonica said.

Mozilla executives said the ZTE Open is the "first chapter" in what they expect to be a long project, one that is already attracting interest from many other telecommunications companies.
