While HTC One M8 opts for its dual-lens UltraPixel system, and Nokia with its 41-megapixel PureView pixel-clustering, Samsung has come up with a conventional approach with 16MP camera on S5. According to the company, it offers world’s fastest auto-focus speed with around 0.3 seconds. The camera includes new ‘Selective Focus’ that enables the users to focus on specific things on their surroundings. It also includes an ‘Advanced HDR’ mode for better light and colors. The device camera features modes such as Panorama, Best Shot, and Dual Shot, which were already present in S4. Galaxy S5 can take 4k- ultra-high definition video, but as it easily fills up the storage space both on device and SD card, images cannot be viewed at full resolution. There is also a front facing camera with 2MP capacity for selfies and video calls.

Battery

Samsung has offered a good battery life for its new flagship phone S5. New device battery has been upgraded from S4's 2,600mAh to 2,800mAh. The device with 2800 mAh battery offers 21 hours of talk time and 300 hours of standby time. It includes Ultra Power Savings Mode that offers prolonged battery life by switching the screen to grayscale, cutting down the usage to periods only when the display is active.

Heart-rate Monitor

GS5 has come up with Heart rate sensor with the hope of appealing fitness freaks. It is a small pulse sensor that is located just below the rear camera. You can access it by using Samsung’s S Health app. The company also comes with Gear Fit and Gear 2/Gear 2 Neo smart watches, which acts as heart rate monitors. It’s very simple to use the sensor; you just need to open the app, tap into Heart Rate, and press your fingers against it for few seconds. Keep in mind that you need to stay stable in order to get accurate measurement, and it gives your actual pulse rate. Samsung's health monitoring system, S Health app has been improved with lots of functions from pedometer to heart rate to calories burnt. The company offers more apps to connect with S health and users also can set diet and records.

Fingerprint Scanner

Like iPhone 5s, Galaxy S5 comes with a fingerprint scanner that is used for locking the device. Fingerprint sensor is built into the home button of the device similar to iOS Touch ID. In contrast to the iPhone 5S’ implementation of fingerprint, which requires the user to touch the home button, you have to swipe your finger or thumb down the home button to unlock the S5 device. For setting up the Fingerprint Scanner, all you need to do is scan your finger 14 times. The scanner can detect three different fingers, but it’s good to have it remember to cover both left and right thumbs and index fingers. Using this scanner is much easier and faster than entering a code or using Face Unlock.
